Protecting the Skin’s Immune System:
Your skin’s most important role is to create a physical barrier regulating the loss of water and electrolytes, as well as preventing un-desired substances from getting inside. But did you know your skin has its own immune systems? To be immune means to be free from or protected against viruses, diseases or allergies. However, according to recent dermatological studies, worldwide skin diseases, allergies and highly sensitive skin are on the increase. What causes this? Age, ultraviolet rays (UV) and the environment all contribute to the deterioration of the skin’s immune systems from UV. Recently, experiments have verified that chemical sunscreens ply only a minor role in protection. Because UV rays can cause immune depletion at very low doses of sun exposure, the skin needs to be immune protected every day, not just when exposed to high UV radiation. Immune-cosmetics-a group of biologically derived and plant-derived materials-are formulations especially conceived to protect the skin against biological and environmental factors.
Ask your skin care professional what products are best in providing this type of protection.
